The Past
Green Patch was formerly ‘Port Louis South’.
In 1896 a dip of traditional wood and metal was built at Green Patch.
1924, on the recommendation of a sheep farming advisor, the Falklands Government established an Experimental Farm at Green Patch. A Manager’s house, farm hand’s cottage and stables were built for the purpose in 1926 but by 1928 HE the Governor announced that ‘in the interests of the public economy’ the Experimental Farm should be closed down. It was to come to public auction with an upset price of £10,000 but it was sold the Falkland Islands Company bought for 12,000. All the moveable property, implements, furniture and stock was sold at public auction.
